The North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NSWA) seeks a Community and Partnership Lead to tackle the challenges of watershed management head-on. Expect complex projects, diverse stakeholders, and work that truly matters. The road won’t always be easy – varied policies, environmental data, and funding applications await—but the impact is real.
The NSWA is a recognized Watershed Planning and Advisory Council (WPAC) under Alberta’s Water for Life Strategy. We foster collaborative partnerships to advance watershed planning, stewardship, and education within the North Saskatchewan River watershed—while also promoting best practices beyond its boundaries. As the Community and Partnerships Lead, you will engage municipalities, Indigenous communities, industry, and non-profits to strengthen watershed health and sustainability.
Your Role:
- Facilitate partnerships – support the Vermilion River Watershed Alliance and the Sturgeon River Watershed Alliance, local stewardship organizations, and other working committees or groups.
- Lead watershed projects – collaborate with municipalities, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders to advance sustainable water management.
- Navigate the system – develop grant applications, manage contracts, and oversee watershed studies.
- Translate science into action – help bridge environmental data with policy and community decision-making.
- Engage and inspire – plan and lead meetings, workshops, and events that strengthen watershed stewardship.
- Be the NSWA’s voice – represent us at advisory committees, technical working groups, and public outreach initiatives.
What You Need to Succeed:
- A diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, watershed management, geography, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in watershed management, environmental planning, or stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working with government agencies, municipalities, non-profits, and landowners.
- Strong knowledge of watershed policies, land-use management, and Alberta’s water-related legislation.
- Exceptional communication skills that enable you to translate complex environmental issues for diverse audiences.
- Project management experience, including grant writing, budget oversight, and consultant management.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the watershed.
What We Offer:
- Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000, commensurate with experience.
- Health and dental benefits for you and your family.
- Matching RRSP contributions to help plan for the future.
- Vacation and flexible work options to support work-life balance.
- Professional development opportunities to grow in your career.
- A chance to work on impactful projects that directly benefit watershed health.
- A supportive, passionate team dedicated to environmental sustainability.
The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) and based in Edmonton, AB, with the option for hybrid work. Evening and weekend work may be required occasionally, and travel throughout the watershed is expected.
